Since the KWN Singapore competition, we have been interviewed by Berita Harian and by English, Malay and Chinese radio stations. At first we were nervous, but after a few interviews, we became more confident (we still have a lot to learn). Fortunately, the reporters were super friendly and nice.

It was also a pleasant surprise to see a short write up on us in the Today newspaper on the 17th of November. Thanks to Poh Choo from SPCA who kindly called us to inform us. We then rushed to 7-11 to grab the paper and thanks to Ronnie from Impressions who kept us updated via email.
Next week, from the grapevine, we might be intervewed by Zaobao (Chinese morning newspaper) and Manja (Malay magazine).

NEXT STOP

The team is heading to Kota Kinabalu (K.K.), Sabah for the KWN Asia Pacific competition.

The team is busy with their final preparations of which the team will present to the judges in K.K. December 2-5 2008.

We are keeping our fingers crossed - hope we can win and if we win again the next stop will be 'The Land of the Rising Sun' Japan.

WE WON!

14th November 2008

A short film produced by MediaComm Club of Sembawang Secondary School won two awards at the Panasonic Kid Witness News Singapore 2008 award show.

The name of the short film is "Natazsha's Diary: Cat City" was awarded:

1) The Spotlight Award (Best Educational Content)

2) KWN Top News Production (Best Production)

They will be representing Singapore in the Asia Pacific finals.

After a long day of hard work, we forced out a smile.

NATAZSHA'S HOSTING SHOOT

We used aluminium foil as a make-do reflector.

Whaaat?

After hours of editing, we were famished! Meals were provided by Mr Levine and Mdm Chai.

All were laughing at the funny videos. except for one serious-looking face. Can you spot that person?

We reviewed the main objectives of the script and how each interview and which portion would best tell the story. It was very difficult as there were times we had to forgo our preferences and choose the footage that brought the message across most effective. In fact, there were times when were realised that the story could go in many directions as we had even material but decided to go for a clear and direct story line. We had to go back and re-edit again.

We spent hours editing the video and making sure that quality has adhered to at all times no matter how exhausted we felt. There were times we would edit for 7 hours straight.

SHOOT SHOOT AND MORE SHOOT

Natazsha had a hard time remembering her lines and that was why we pasted the mini white board with her lines written on it right below the camera lens. We pasted right below the camera lens hoping that when she looks at the script, it would look as if she was looking at the camera.

PUBLIC INTERVIEWS

Our third and final interviewee: Mr Andrew Lim He was expressed his concern about the cat situation.

''What are your opinions on cats?''

The second interviewee: Mdm Vani She was on the fence in regards to the cat issue.

Our first public interviewee: Mr Tamil Maran He stated that he was not too please with the cat situation. We went out to gather the people's viewpoint on the stray cat situation and what they thought about cat feeders. We interviewed about 7 people.

WHAT'S THE GAME PLAN FOR TODAY?

Mdm Chai had printed the interview questions and script we had discussed as a group and
was passing out the printer copies.

''So this is how the story goes...''

We interviewed a grandma and she revealed her love for cats. She talked about how she watched her twenty cats die one by one because of virus. She started to cry. We had to decide when was the best time to pass her the tissue paper.

Initially, we decided to start the video with grandma's real emotive story, followed by our re-enactment of how Natazsha hates cats (which is real) and comments on how she does not understand why people like cats so much like grandma. Her friends at the table will challenge her to solve the stray cat sitution in Singapore.

MOCHI'S NENEK

"Thanks Nenek(grandma) for sharing your story with us.'' It was such a pity that even though the story she told us was so touching, we were not able to include her inteview due due to time constriants. A grandma with her cat, Mochi, shared her experience living with 20 cats under 1 roof.
